There are three types of baby monitor on the market – audio, video and sensory monitors. Audio monitors are probably the best known of the three. They enable parents to hear if their baby stirs in his sleep or wakes up and cries, wherever they may be in the house. Video monitors combine the sound function of an audio monitor with moving pictures so that parents can see that all is well with their child without going into their room. Sensory or movement monitors often include the sound function of an audio monitor but also detect a child’s movement while sleeping. If no movement is detected, an alarm will sound to alert a parent to a potential problem.
